In February, Cooper Engineering alumnus Dr. Christopher J. Panebianco ChE’16 presented at the 2023 Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) Annual Conference in Dallas, Texas.

The annual meeting serves as a global gathering place for individuals involved in the fields of biology, engineering, clinical research, surgery, orthopaedic science, veterinary medicine, and musculoskeletal care. It presents a multitude of prospects to showcase ongoing research, foster partnerships, and interact with fellow professionals.

Dr. Panebianco presented research on the “Teaching Principles of Bioadhesives with an Inquiry-Based Learning Module” and was nominated for a prestigious News Investigators Recognition Award, which required both a poster and a podium presentation to be judged at the conference.

The research was done alongside Cooper alumni Poorna Dutta ChE’22, current Cooper students Jillian Frost ChE’22 MChE’24, Angela Huang ChE’22 MChE’24, and Olivia Kim ChE ’23, and Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering Jennifer Weiser. The work was also done in collaboration with Dr. James Iatridis at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC and Dr. Andrea Vernengo at the AO Research Institute in Davos, Switzerland.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
