The Cooper Union was founded on the principle of providing access to higher education regardless of race, creed, gender, or financial means. Tuition assistance has been integral to the make-up of the institution since it began over 165 years ago. The Cooper Union’s office of financial aid helps students and their families understand the financial requirements of a Cooper Union education and explore options and funding to meet educational expenses. We assist with all aspects of the financial aid application process and help individuals and families financially plan their academic careers at the institution.

Every enrolled undergraduate student is awarded a half-tuition scholarship valued at $22,275 per school year and a tuition-free senior year valued at $44,550.

The priority deadline to file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for financial aid in a typical year is December 1 for Early Decision applicants, March 1 for Regular Decision applicants, and March 31 for all other students. Cooper's code is 002710.

If you require assistance, please email us at financialaid@cooper.edu.

If you are an enrolled student, please schedule a virtual or in-person meeting using the calendar links below. If there is not an open time slot, please check back as we frequently update our calendar. Calendars are only available to currently enrolled students.

The Federal Loan Lending Code of Conduct
As a participant in federal loan programs, Cooper Union is required to have a Code of Conduct applicable to the institution’s officers, employees, and agents. The code of conduct requirements are established in the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) signed into law on August 14, 2008. This Code of Conduct, related to Student Loan Activities, is a requirement specific to certain transactions and activities related to financial aid matters. In addition, the law includes requirements related to the publication of the code and annual disclosures.  The requirements are provided in the Cooper Union’s statement regarding the Federal Loan Lending Code of Conduct.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
