Climate Week

Cooper Union x Climate Week 2022 is a series of lectures and events that aim to engage our community in assessing the role of the climate crisis in our day-to-day lives. This year, we'll focus on the themes of policy and labor as we imagine all of the work ahead of us. The Cooper Climate Coalition aims to promote curiosity, interdisciplinary dialogue, and sustained engagement with the climate crisis.

Climate, Labor, and Policy

Cooper Climate Coalition and The New Republic present a discussion on the climate crisis in recognition of Climate Week NYC. Join The New Republic contributing writer Liza Featherstone as she moderates a discussion with New York State Assemblymember Zohran Kwame Mamdani and Dr. Genevieve Guenther on climate justice, policy, labor, and more.

Architectures of Transition | Domestic Imaginaries — Platforms for social change

Tatiana Bilbao will speak on her exploration, experimentation, and research focusing on domestic environments as they relate to her vision and pedagogy. Bilbao will present examples of her theories applied to various projects. The presentation will be followed by a conversation moderated by Elisa Iturbe.

Cooper Community Picnic and Meet Up for Attending Global Climate Strike 

A vegan and vegetarian lunch and a meetup for Cooper community members attending the Global Climate Strike that will be starting at Foley Square at 2pm. RSVP for lunch.

A hike at Blue Mountain State park in Peekskill for current Cooper Union students, faculty, staff, and alumni. More information and RSVP here.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”
