Ukrainian Letters (temporary) Museum by Kateryna Korolevtseva presents 33 works of art, namely 33 letters of the Ukrainian alphabet, in the Foundation Building's colonnade windows from June 22, 2023 through July 13, 2023. The exhibition will then migrates inside to 41 Cooper Gallery from August 14, 2023 through September 3, 2023. These are revivals and interpretations of the works of 33 prominent Ukrainian graphic artists. The letters were found on old book covers and other printed material created from 1917, the time of the Ukrainian National Republic, to the present day of Independent Ukraine.

Thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of Ukrainians became even more aware of the importance of the Ukrainian language and its spread after the 24th of February 2022. Therefore, the mission of the project is to acquaint as many people as possible with Ukrainian culture and language, to show them the beauty and diversity of the Ukrainian alphabet, and to bring them closer to the awareness that letters are not only a tool for the visual expression of language. Letters are art.

This project was initially created by Kateryna Korolevtseva and exhibited during an art residency in Weimar, Germany at the invitation of “11m3 projektraum” and with the support of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Kreativfonds, in 2022.

Kateryna Korolevtseva is a brand designer and art director from Ukraine, currently based in Germany. A recipient of two Red Dot Design Awards, she also specializes in typographic brand identity, type design, and bespoke logo design. Korolevtseva has written for Design Week and Alphabettes, among others, and has been featured in It’s Nice That, AIGA Eye On Design, Slanted Magazine, and more.
