In Conversation | Julián Palacio and Nima Javidi: Two Perspectives on Typology
Friday, October 16, 2020, 1 - 3pm
This event will be conducted through Zoom. Please register in advance here. Zoom account registration is required.
The primary purpose of the In Conversation Lecture Series is to engender discussion of timely issues and ideas among Cooper faculty and students. Julián Palacio and Nima Javidi teach the second-year Design Studio along with Stephanie Lin. This fall semester is their second collaboration and attempt to establish issues of typology as a focus of their teaching research.
The transformation of type in architecture has often been catalyzed by diverse factors such as new programmatic demands, technological and structural innovations as well the dominant ideologies of forms and cultures. The two speakers will discuss the divergence and the convergences of form and structure in their capacity to facilitate typological transformations.
Nima Javidi is a partner at the Ja Architecture Studio, Toronto-based atelier that fuses the rootedness of a regionally focused practice with the sensibility of an internationally conscious design studio whose work considers larger global themes.
Julián Palacio is the founder and principal of JPAS, a New York-based architecture office established in 2014 with an interest in probing architectural form in relation to fundamental questions of use, structure and local material practices as a form of knowledge and cultural production.
This event is accessible to current Cooper Union students, faculty, and staff.
