Michael Young Selected as Finalist

Assistant Professor Michael Young with Kutan Ayata (Young & Ayata) have been selected as finalists for YAP Istanbul Modern: Young Architects Program.
The YAP Istanbul Modern: Young Architects Program was initiated by Istanbul Modern in collaboration with The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and MoMA PS1, under the co-sponsorship of Garanti Bank, Polimeks Holding and VitrA. Held biannually during the summer, the YAP Istanbul Modern: Young Architects Program offers young emerging architects the opportunity to design temporary exterior installations through an innovative approach to architectural design.
Initiated in 2012-2013, the YAP Istanbul Modern is part of the YAP International carried out at MoMA PS1 in New York, the National Museum of XXI Century Arts (MAXXI) in Rome, the cultural organization CONSTRUCTO in Santiago, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in Seoul. The jury consists of Barry Bergdoll (MoMA), Çelenk Bafra (Istanbul Modern), Emre Arolat, Han Tümertekin, Jeannette Plaut (CONSTRUCTO), Levent Çalıkoğlu (Istanbul Modern),Melkan Tabanlıoğlu, Oya Eczacıbaşı (Istanbul Modern), Pedro Gadanho (MoMA), Pelin Derviş (YAP Istanbul Modern Coordinator), Pippo Ciorra (MAXXI) and Suha Özkan (President of the Jury). The jury convened on November 11, 2014 and selected the five finalists from among the young candidates put forth by nominators from across Turkey and the TRNC. Finalists are Ali Sinan & Hasan Okan Çetin (Ankara),Architecture for All (Herkes İçin Mimarlık, Istanbul), FLAT C (Selim Bayer & Bulut Cebeci, London-Istanbul), PATTU (Cem Kozar & Işıl Ünal, Istanbul) and Young & Ayata (Michael Young & Kutan Ayata, New York).
The selected project will be installed in the summer of 2015 in Istanbul Modern’s courtyard.
