Peter Matt
Adjunct Instructor
Peter Matt is a geologist with special interests in mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry. Research projects undertaken in pursuit of his graduate degrees were on the genesis of small magnetite ore deposits in New Jersey, and on the role of melting during remobilization of sphalerite ore at the very large Balmat, NY zinc deposit. He is currently collaborating on documenting the zinc isotopic character of zinc oxide minerals at the historic Sterling Hill mine in New Jersey.
Beginning in 2009, Peter has taught a variety of Earth science courses, both introductory and upper level. As a teacher, Peter’s goal is to help students establish a strong connection with Earth as an environmental system, and the role they play as Earth’s stewards.
Peter earned a Master of Science in geology from Brooklyn College in 2013, and a PhD in Earth and Environmental Science from The Graduate Center at CUNY in 2019.
