Einat Imber

Adjunct Instructor
Technical Assistant, Art & Architecture Shop

Einat Imber (b. 1979) grew up in Israel with a sensitive political nerve which is a persistent undertone in the poetics of her art practice. She moved to the United States to pursue a BFA at the Cooper Union and has been part of this community as a student, sculpture shop technician and faculty for over 20 years. Imber received her MFA from Stanford University where, in her studio surrounded by the tech industry, she employed analogue projections and alternative photographic processes. She is now based in the Hudson Valley with her wife and two young children, where they are cultivating old farm buildings and the surrounding land as a place of environmental, food and cultural production. Imber has exhibited work in New York and California and in 2016 she traveled across the country towing a giant folded boat; her encounters with a cross-section of American landscapes, people, histories and realities are the subject of a long form video essay titled “Cross Country Conversation”.

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
