The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art is pleased to announce the formation of a partnership with the newly-opened Moxy East Village hotel, located on East 11th Street between Third and Fourth Avenues.

Moxy East Village is the latest New York City-based experiential property by the Moxy Hotels brand and features design elements that evoke the unique history and spirit of the East Village. In addition to providing major support to The Cooper Union in its effort to get back to free tuition for all students, Moxy East Village and The Cooper Union are partnering to offer Cooper Union programming to Moxy guests and vice versa, given the two organization’s close proximity and shared community, and to establish a preferred hotel designation for the Cooper community of students, alumni, faculty, families, and guests.

“New partnerships like this, especially with our East Village neighbors, can play a vital role in our plan to return to tuition-free education for Cooper Union undergraduates,” said Terri Coppersmith, Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs for The Cooper Union.  “We are so appreciative of the support from the team at Moxy East Village hotel.  Their partnership comes at a time of great momentum for Cooper, as we have increased scholarships for the first time since tuition was instituted here.  Now, on average, 77% of tuition is covered for undergraduates. We look forward to building on this momentum, growing our foundation of support beyond individuals and alumni to include new relationships and partnerships with distinctive organizations like Moxy that are ready to help us further our commitment to return to full-tuition scholarships by 2029,” she said.

“We’re thrilled to partner with a prestigious  East Village institution like Cooper Union," said Mitchell Hochberg, Lightstone President. "Providing VIP access to Cooper Union events integrates Moxy into the broader community and offers guests a unique neighborhood-centric experience to further enhance their Moxy East Village stay.”

  • Founded by inventor, industrialist and philanthropist Peter Cooper in 1859, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art offers education in art, architecture and engineering, as well as courses in the humanities and social sciences.

  • “My feelings, my desires, my hopes, embrace humanity throughout the world,” Peter Cooper proclaimed in a speech in 1853. He looked forward to a time when, “knowledge shall cover the earth as waters cover the great deep.”

  • From its beginnings, Cooper Union was a unique institution, dedicated to founder Peter Cooper's proposition that education is the key not only to personal prosperity but to civic virtue and harmony.

  • Peter Cooper wanted his graduates to acquire the technical mastery and entrepreneurial skills, enrich their intellects and spark their creativity, and develop a sense of social justice that would translate into action.
